Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

I really like Black and White photography. I’ve noticed that, to me at least, photos that are mundane and boring normally are almost by default made more artistic by removing the color. Sometimes, it seems that it’s not so much the artistic value of the photo, but the fact that the photo is black and white that makes people think, “Oh, it’s an artistic photo. Cool.”

But sometimes, the black and white really brings out the essence of the moment. Color often clutters, especially in this world with  neon signs and flashy advertisements and oversaturation. And black and white creates the simplicity. Perhaps it is my mind that is attracted towards simplicity. Life is increasingly complicated, and so I jump at any opportunity to simplify it.

Sometimes, I think that maybe my color vision deficiency has something to do with it. Maybe because I confuse greens with grays and white, I am more attuned to grays, so I don’t have to deal with the confusion.

I totally agree.

I believe that Black and White photography – when done ‘correctly’ presents more definition in images. Also because it’s not what ‘most’ of us normall see – the takes the eye and mind just that extra second or two to register what the image is – it’s little speck of time where the photographer has the opportunity to grab the viewers attention.

Black and White is a real art – especially in the digital age. I wish I was better at it.
